Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato has condemned the Tikapur incident in which eight policemen and a child were killed after the protest turned violent on Monday.

Mahato, who arrived here in Birgunj on Sunday for Madhes banda programme, said he was looking forward to hold talks with the government that would yield conclusion.
Mahato, among other Madhesi leaders, are under fire for their alleged provocative statements being one of the key factors behind the Tikapur incident. Media reports claimed that Mahato among other leaders had delivered seditious public speech in Tikapur a few days before the Tikapur carnage.
Talking to the Post, leader Mahato said, “We had gone Tikapur to encourage the Tharu community to fight for their rights, but an unexpected incident occurred.” He also condemned the arson and vandalism that took place during the curfew imposed after the Monday incident where police and Nepal Army were mobilised.
Leader Mahato also made it clear that they would not sit for ‘fruitless talks’. “This will be the last battle for our rights,” he said, adding, “We will decide our future course based on the government’s response to our 4-point precondition.”
When asked that the people have not come onto the streets as expected even two weeks after the Madhes banda, Mahato said the agitation will be conclusive if the other Madhesi parties resign from CA and join in the agitating.
